The Chris Nicely Interview

Chris Nicely is the pastor at Legacy Minded Church in Burbank California. He and his wife are church planters in a city of creativity and story telling, Burbank California, where thousands of movies are created every year.

Everyone thinks Hollywood when the movie industry is talked about but it’s Burbank where most of the work is done. Chris is also a father and shares how being a father has made him a better pastor. Chris talks about his journey not only to the L.A. area but how his church touches a city by, “telling the story of Jesus to a city that tells stories.”

He gives insight in how to touch this generation but also to young pastors and church planters. He also tells how to engage with mentors and be legacy minded in ministry. He draws of the wisdom of mentors and those who have walked before him. He has the heart of a shepard, and father and leads his church by serving those in it.

Anderson Campbell is the Assistant Professor of Christian Studies at George Fox University. He has an extensive ministry background from pastoring youth, to leading campus ministry.

He is husband and father of two. He is a writer, and blogger. His new book Father Factor is a collection of 40 essays of fathers under forty. He also is a Certified Coach through Creative results Management.

Anderson shares his story about life and ministry, including how not to fire someone serving in ministry. His hobbies include crafting home brew beer and he loves tattoos. You can follow his writing on his blog The Crooked Mouth. He now lives in the Portland Oregon area and is part of Theophilus Church.

Aaron Smith is husband, father and writer. His blog Cultural Savage explores the sometimes messy life of faith. Aaron suffers from bi-polar disease though it doesn’t define him it has a deep effect on his life and faith. His insights on faith, life and mental illness is what the church needs today. He’s been featured on the Huffington Post, discussing living with mental illness, and is a published author in the new book Father Factor.

 

The Mike Lawrence Interview

Mike Lawrence is a missionary and church planter in Jaco Costa Rica. He states in his blog “we are a missionary family..and they “have a passion to reach the lost and make disciples of Christ.

Mike along with his family have been on the mission field since 2005. Mike by trade is a plumber, but after serving in his local congregation in S. Florida they heard the call to missions and plant a church in Jaco, Costa Rica. The family moved to Jaco with their 2 year old daughter Naomi and his wife Revae, 8 months pregnant. Six weeks after arriving in Jaco their second child was born, Abigail. Since then have had two more children born in Costa Rica. First Mikaela than their first son in 2011, Elijah.

Mike talks about the transition going from a plumber and the comforts of America to the culture of Central America. He describes how to make this transition, but also its difficulties. Some of his best advice he shares is to set up strong ties at home before leaving for the mission field. Also keeping those relationships strong as you continue to minister, when you’re abroad. He also talks about connecting with other missionaries, as they are a great resource and help when walking through the challenges of being a missionary. They live “a different kind of normal”, his families tagline for their blog.

Caleb is a pastor, husband and father. He comes from a rich heritage in the ministry. His father Randy Cole, uncle (Rick Cole) and grandfather Glen Cole, were and are pastors. He talks about the mentorship and wisdom shared from this legacy in ministry and how it helps him pastor today.

He is the lead pastor with his wife Chrissy at Project Church, in downtown Sacramento. He understands the unique challenges of being a church planter, having started Project Church in June 2012. He also knows the challenges of a young urban church in the heart of a city and believes that the local “church body is an effective place for making disciples and loving people well.”
