It’s Time to Give Up
by Troy McLaughlin
The great thing about writing is you can edit, you can take out the bad parts, polish and make it better. In essence you can make it like a new car, shiny and clean. The problem is that’s what we try to do with our lives. Tidy them up, make them presentable, and show that we are not broken inside. While under the hood, inside we’re broken. The best we do is cover up the broken parts. At best, we are just polishing the outside.
The catch is, we can’t fix or heal ourselves, no one can.
In all the fixing we get tired, walk away, or get so discouraged we quit on ourselves and many times, God. It’s a 24 hour proposition we can’t, and will never handle. You know what God says to us;” I’ve got this handled.” “Let’s hangout.” “I love you.” “The fix is on me.” “I’m the only one who can give you rest, and it’s only found in me, not in a career, job, thing, possessions, relationship, nothing will fix you, except me, period.”
So it’s time to give up and give in to what only God can do, fix you and give your soul true rest. Are you going to join me as you face this reality? Are you going to give up, and give in to God, for His rest and His job in fixing you? Yes it goes against all the experts voices, to say don’t give up or give in, well on this one it’s the only answer that works.
Matt 28-30 MSG “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”
God’s the one waiting and wanting you to give up, and give into Him. The magnificent thing is, He will always be there, and He never ever gives up on you. He always wants you. In fact, He can’t love you more, whether you’re fixed, or broken. Nothing, I repeat nothing, you’ve ever done, will do, or say will ever make God love or want you more.
As you face this week and the voices creep in “you’re not enough, you need fixing,” rest assured that God is with you, for you, and wants you, no conditions or strings attached.
Practical Takeaways:
Be willing to give this work to God
Pray for faith to trust God that He will give you rest
